Dear all,

The photo exhibition (held between Jul 20-22, 2007) was a great success! Over 200 guests attended the event.

The event showcased over 80 winning photos from the contest, along with a slide show that featured all the nominations for People's Choice Award.

Over $1600 USD was raised in total for charity through suggested admission and photo auctions. Please visit here for a detailed report and the following link to our photo gallery.

The goal of this project is to touch, move, and inspire the audience with the focus on charity. Based on the feedbacks received so far, the event has achieved precisely that. On behalf of the Charity In-Focus group, I would like to thank everyone for their support and contributions.

The Objective

Using photography, to capture “charity and compassion in-action” or inspire “a call-for-action” within our society with the goal of increasing awareness and participation in charitable acts.

Charity:1.benevolent goodwill toward or love of humanity 2 a) generosity and helpfulness especially toward the needy or suffering; also aid given to those in need b) an institution engaged in relief of the poor c) public provision for the relief of the needy

Compassion: a sense of shared suffering, often combined with a desire to alleviate such suffering; arise through empathy and often characterized through actions seeking to aid -- Wikipedia

The Concept

Photography is an art that can deliver powerful messages to its viewers through images that capture the harsh reality of the pressing needs in our society. By participating, photographers will embark on a journey to discover how we, as individuals or groups, can bring charity and compassion to our community. The views and visions expressed through their images and exhibited in the competition will in turn reach a greater audience, inspiring others to become involved.

Unless otherwise specified by the sponsors, proceeds from suggested admission or general donation will be dedicated to NY Times Neediest Cases Fund.
